The Attic Art Yard Project - Overview and Initial steps

 

In December 2019, I embarked on a challenging endeavor that redefined a neglected structure into a thriving artistic haven known as The Attic Art Yard Project. Over two intensive months in early 2020, o I poured my heart and soul into transforming this space into a beacon of creativity and community engagement.

My primary goal was to breathe new life into the old building through a comprehensive renovation. This involved not only restoring its structural integrity but also infusing it with vibrant artistic elements. Walls that once stood bare became canvases for captivating graffiti art, each piece carefully conceptualized to resonate with the project's overarching theme of urban renewal and artistic expression. Mural paintings adorned other sections of the space, adding layers of narrative and depth to our evolving masterpiece.

Central to the approach was a commitment to saving the structure and honestly speaking I had budget constraints. I used the payment I received for another artwork- which was less than 30k on this project.  I curated a selection of low-cost, upcycled materials, navigating through numerous trials and errors to find solutions that aligned with both our creative vision and budget constraints. This process was as much about problem-solving as it was about artistic creation, with each challenge fueling our determination to push artistic boundaries.

The thematic design of each room, or 'art space,' was a labor-intensive process guided by meticulous planning and artistic flair. I explored a rich color palettes—from serene cool tones to inviting warm hues, from the shimmering depths of golden blue to the lush vibrancy of floral motifs and the electric energy of neon accents in the attic. Each space was curated to offer a distinct sensory experience, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the diverse expressions of art and creativity.

Beyond interior spaces, The Attic Art Yard Project extended its influence into the surrounding environment. A dedicated garden center nursery flourished alongside large outdoor fish tanks, each painstakingly hand-painted to harmonize with the overall aesthetic. Every aspect of our project—from initial sketches meticulously translated onto walls and tanks to the final strokes of paint—reflected our unwavering commitment to craftsmanship and attention to detail.
